Cover Image - The Trees Sing - Book Review: A Soul-Soothing Short Story Collection

The Trees Sing by Rishikesh Lokapure is one of those rare, soothing books that feels like a tight hug after a long day. I pre-ordered the book as soon as Rishikesh announced it. And I ended up pausing and rereading the stories just to feel them again and again.

Even though the book may look like the ones written for children, it’s a kiddish, cosy story book... for adults. You can't really hide your smiles and giggles while reading it. This is a soul-soothing short story collection. It’s warm. It’s cosy. It’s full of life’s tiniest, unnoticed stories. The Trees Sing often hits you with nostalgia.

My Rating:

What the Book is About

The Trees Sing is a heartfelt collection of nine short stories about small, unnoticed moments of everyday life. It’s about ordinary people, ordinary days, and the extraordinary emotions hiding inside them. These short stories feel like slices of life that celebrate kindness, innocence and the little moments we tend to overlook.

The stories are simple yet heartwarming. They’re short and slow, about a few thoughts, a few events, or a few interactions. It's all about the beauty of simple everyday moments. A pilot living as a tailor. An old couple finding comfort in her cottage. A girl who hears music in trees – the flower lady. The characters are relatable and real (and all of them kind).

What Works?

The book is nothing life-changing as such. It's nothing extraordinary even. Still, it's deep, profound and beautiful. The writing is warm, cosy and softly visual. There’s a touch of magic in the way emotions are portrayed. The book doesn’t actually try to impress you. It just does.

I fell in love with not only the stories but the book itself. You don’t hear that often, right? I loved the presentation, with cute illustrations and beautiful font. And... what seemed like a colouring page, after each story. The beauty of these stories lie in their incredible characters. Anxious new hire. Adults who find comfort in tea and ginger biscuits.

What Falls Short?

Honestly, very little. The only disappointment I have with this book is that it leaves you aching for more. You’ll want more... more stories, more moments, more of the warmth. There's no drama. Just ample time for you to pause and suck in the beauty. It's a perfect soul-soothing read.

Who Should Read It?

The Trees Sing is for adults who miss the simplicity of storybooks, especially those who crave soft and soulful tales. If you enjoy quiet, reflective stories, you'll love this feel-good, slice-of-life story collection. A comforting read with wholesome characters. It’s for anyone who wants to slow down and feel something.

Final Thoughts

The Trees Sing is nothing dramatic, nothing ambitious, nothing life-changing... and somehow, that’s exactly what makes it beautiful. It’s a calm, comforting book that reminds you life is more than chaos and noise. A perfect cosy read for slow evenings and laid-back days. It doesn’t try to impress you, but it leaves you aching for more.
