Cover Image - There Will Be No Love - Book Review: Disappointing and Dragging

On a recent reading spree, I picked up There Will Be No Love by Ajeet Bharti. I had read some of Ajeet’s earlier work and was eager to dive into this one. The intriguing title, coupled with its raw portrayal of humanity, had me expecting a deep, thought-provoking read.

Unfortunately, I walked away disappointed. I’m glad that this book was a gift, I didn’t spend any money on it.

My Rating:

What is There Will Be No Love about?

The book is a collection of nine short stories that revolve around the raw, harsh realities of life, particularly focusing on rural Bihar. The stories delve into the crudeness of human experiences when placed in difficult, often bleak situations. Themes of despair, philosophy, and drama run through each narrative, but the overall tone of the book is as the title suggests—devoid of any hope or love.

Why did There Will Be No Love fall short?

While I appreciate the themes and the attempt to showcase the rough edges of humanity, the execution fell short in almost every way. The writing lacked the vividness that I expected. The stories were meant to depict the "rawness" of life, but instead, the portrayal felt muted and lacked depth.

I went in expecting something darker, more intense, and emotionally gripping. But what I got was a lacklustre narrative that never quite reached the level of darkness or philosophical depth that it promised.

The pacing of the stories was another issue. Even though the book is relatively short, I found myself skipping through large portions, only sticking around to see how the stories would end. It was hard to stay engaged.

To read or not to?

If you're looking for a quick read to get through in one sitting, There Will Be No Love might be a passable option. If you're expecting something thought-provoking, gripping, or emotionally impactful, you’ll likely be disappointed.

I would not recommend this book if you're looking for something engaging or inspiring.

Final Thoughts

There Will Be No Love by Ajeet Bharti had the potential to be a raw and honest portrayal of life’s harsh realities, but it missed the mark in execution. While the themes and setting were promising, the writing fell flat, and the pacing was slow. It’s not a book I’d recommend unless you’re looking for a quick and simple read without much emotional investment.
