Sweets and Sycamores Book Review: Witchy Rom-Com That’ll Steal Your Heart

A few weeks ago, I received the ARC of Sweets and Sycamores by Arianne Nicks. I was waiting to start reading it since then. Still, I wasn’t prepared for the level of cuteness and charm packed into this book. It’s witchy, it’s romantic, and it’s so cosy that I swear I could feel the autumn chill.
Throughout my reading, I felt the scent of baked goods wafting out of the pages. There may also have been a happy tear or two by the end. It’s a witchy rom-com that’ll steal your heart.
My Rating:

What Sweets and Sycamores Book is About
At the heart of the story is Allie, a late-blooming witch who hasn’t quite figured out her powers yet. Cast out of her coven, she finds herself in Sycamore Falls, a small town that oozes personality and charm. Here, she ends up working with Dominic – the local baker who’s equal parts grumpy and sweet. Add in a goofy baby dragon, a touch of magic, and the irresistible pull of beautifully written slow-burn romance, and you’ve got a book to read curled up under a blanket with a hot drink.
What Works
The world of Sycamore Falls is the real star here for me. It’s the kind of town you wish you could move to – cosy, magical and absolutely brimming with life. The writing captures that small-town magic without ever feeling overdone. Sweets and Sycamores is vivid yet easy to read, cheeky in tone, and genuinely funny.
The romance between Allie and Dominic is a delight to follow. The grumpy/sunshine duo is written with so much charm that you can’t help but root for them. Every glance, and every moment, sends you giggling, kicking your legs, and rereading just to soak in the cuteness.
The mix of witchy magic, autumn atmosphere, and heartfelt romance creates a perfect rom-com recipe. It’s so emotionally investing that it leaves you smiling through tears.
What Falls Short
Honestly? Not much. This isn’t the kind of book where you nitpick plot holes or pacing. The author promises a warm, witchy rom-com, and the book delivers exactly that. It’s neither too long, nor too short. Pace is just fine. Ends on a perfect note. Keeps the romantic tension on without annoying you. It’s just that you might not want to leave Sycamore Falls behind.
Who Should Read It
Sweets and Sycamores is a perfect pick if you love witchy romance, small-town settings, or the ever-satisfying grumpy/sunshine trope. Even if you don’t usually read rom-coms, the cosy vibes and magical touches make this one worth a try. Think of it as a fall comfort read that could win over even the most skeptical reader.

Final Thoughts
Sweets and Sycamores is sweet, funny and heartfelt. It’s the kind of rom-com that doesn’t just entertain; it makes you wish you could step right into the story and stay there. With its charming small town, magical elements, and lovable characters, this book has set the bar high for every cosy romance I’ll pick up next. Honestly, I don’t know if I’ll ever find a rom-com that tops this one.
